What is the ADA, or the Americans with Disabilities Act?

  • Signed into law in 1990
  • Purpose: to end discrimination, reduce barriers to employment, and ensure access to education for people with disabilities
  • Result: increased visibility of people with disabilities, led to reshaping of physical environment, and improved communication access
