Anti-Discrimination Laws

Aside from the moral responsibility, there are plenty of laws in place to guarantee the fair treatment of people with disabilities on the web.

The Rehabilitation Act: Section 504

The Rehabilitation Act: Section 508

Americans with Disabilities Act

Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act: Section 1557

Individual states have laws that protect people with disabilities from discrimination.

New Jersey’s Web Accessibility Policy

  • Applies to all web-based development provided by Executive Branch agencies that operate websites as a public service
  • Independent state entities are strongly encouraged to adopt this policy or something similar

The U.S. Department of Education is even increasing its investigations into compliance with the ADA
